|Global Business Power Corporation (GBP), through subsidiaries Cebu Energy Development Corporation (CEDC) and Toledo Power Company (TPC), in partnership with Bureau of Fire Protection (Toledo) recently organized firefighting competition among employees and information campaign among surrounding communities to promote fire safety and preparedness.Now on its 6th year, GBP’s firefighting competition tests firefighting readiness of employees through various challenges including busted hose replacement, hose laying and fire extinguisher relay. The team who applies the best strategy and finishes relay with the least amount of time shall be declared the winner.
The 12-man team of TPC bested five other teams by clocking in one minute and nine seconds for busted hose replacement, forty-one seconds for hose laying and one minute and 32 seconds for fire extinguisher relay.
“We are proud that our employees are equipped to respond to fire incidents. Aside from enhancing their skills, this firefighting competition also promotes camaraderie, sportsmanship, discipline and teamwork among employees,” said GBP head for Toledo operations Engr. Leah Diaz.
Meanwhile, GBP extends fire awareness campaign to its adopted barangays. As part of GBP’s service to its nearby communities, the Company recently conducted an Information, Education and Communication (IEC) campaign to promote consciousness on fire preventive safety measures especially during summer.
GBP’s IEC campaign is a community program done every quarter to provide awareness on issues relevant to its surrounding communities and as a means of keeping lines of communication open.
